British Columbia’s health insurance plan is called the Medical Services Plan (MSP). To apply for MSP, you must fill out the BC Application for Health and Drug Coverage at https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/health/health-drug-coverage/ahdc

This is a single form that allows you to apply for MSP, Fair Pharmacare (drug coverage), as well supplementary benefits for you and your family. To apply for MSP, you must:

1. Be a citizen of Canada or lawfully admitted to Canada for permanent residence

2. Live in British Columbia, and

3. Be physically present in British Columbia at least six months in a calendar year.

You will need copies of accepted identification (ID) which for permanent residents can be a confirmation of permanent residence or a permanent resident card.
